Soft caramel is a classic candy that is rectangular shaped and composed of sugar and milk. It was invented by Arab people some 1000 years ago by using sugar cane syrup decantation techniques. It has been around for a while and continues to seduce people, kids and adults, due to its crunchy texture on the outside and gooey property once eaten. Here are some advices presented by Delices and Gourmandises to help you prepare your own soft caramel candies.
To prepare around thirty (30) soft caramel candies, you will need 250g powdered sugar, 160g milk, 20g honey, 160g butter and about 30 minutes of preparation and cooking time. On a side note, it is better to use semi-salted butter to enhance the taste of your caramel candies. Now, the first step to your preparation is to pour and boil inside a non-adhesive saucepan the milk, sugar, and the honey all together. Then, add the pieces of butter in it and cook over a medium to high heat for about 20 minutes. Stir the mixture until you get a change of color. After that, place a baking paper in a rectangular baking pan before you pour your newly formed mixture into heat. Finally, leave it to cool before cutting your caramels into small rectangular or square pieces. Do not hesitate to add some flavors such as vanilla and cardamom to your caramels in order to enhance the taste.
